In addition to buying the women's apparel for NEXT stores, I also am in charge of the merchandising for store openings within the company. Usually Steve Silver (partner/shoe buyer) will put forth all the ground work which entails putting into place all things needed to open a store from function to aesthetics. Then I come in and plan out how the merchandise will look in the store with layouts, product placement, and store visuals.
